SPASHING A BIT OF TEA
SPLASHING A BIT OF TEA
Throughout the years, one unique yet unfortunate trend has remained steadfast –
Many projects actually came to us after clients had hired large design names to design their homes.
This seems duplicitous and strange, but it is a fairly common occurrence …. and the question is why?
The truthful response is layered.
Designers and firms generally make the most profit on selling larger, more expensive items, leading attentions to specific companies, items, and priorities.
Over the course of most projects (especially if they are larger scale), inevitably there are curve balls, delays, and situations which may cause the project to linger, and the attention will shift to the next big client/project as things are mulling along.
Toward the end of the project, the finishing touches and details with accessories, styling and curating the environment are invariably overlooked and ‘hurried’ (these pieces generally require more time and effort and less profit), that is in some cases - if completed at all!
We have seen projects left ‘unfinished’ time and time again.
Ironically, these smaller details are the most important considerations of any project. They complete the story and the vibe. Not everyone is skilled with these deeper touches- and as you will see even on design shows, these accessories and details all start to look the same to quickly finish up a project. The same accessories are ‘repeated’ on multiple projects to save time and maximize profits.
We have then had our finished work photographed by the ‘originally hired’ designers and firms and credit taken for tall of the work that we have done to make their choices shine and finally resonate with cohesiveness and personality (which they did not complete).
In hindsight, this would be largely due to the fact that we have not been active on social media (largely due to working for many years via reputation and word of mouth to capacity and most importantly to protect client privacy -which is commonly requested among specific clientele). If we were active daily on social media, no one would have the opportunity to steal the thunder because every detail would already be out there.
This is not to cast shade on our industry, or specific designers - even when they have strategically claimed /stolen our finished work for their social media accounts. This is merely a cost of doing business and a tidbit that most would not have realized.
Ahhhhh, the tangled webs we weave!
Most recently, however……. you will begin to notice that many largely followed designers are now crediting the ‘styling’ of their spaces appropriately. Progress!
(Lesson: those with the largest number of followers yield the largest swords)
We have always been in the privately authentic lane (somewhat understated with clients respected in this fish bowl world). Our clients return to us time and time again for different projects (personal and investment). We are also lucky enough to have maintained genuine friendships with our clients over the years and most fortuitously………they share their experience in perpetuity which fuels our business organically.
If you know, you know.
