DICHOTOMY
DICHOTOMY
An ironic twist is nearly a constant among us….
Desires, moods, needs, changes, finances, health (physical and mental) are ever-evolving – faster than ever in this modern world. While we essentially need to remain somewhat fluid, in order to be able to shift and move as not to break – our inner desires may indicate we want surroundings that are more reliable and not in a constant state of change.
We are all attempting to navigate a life to keep up with a very fast paced existence, yet understand the importance of slowing down to be mindful and tend to our health and what remains most important to us. There is a desire for some things to remain constant in order to feel grounded.
This dichotomy is evident to all of us (on different levels)
While design is an ever-changing flow of energy and space (because no space can remain static if life moves through it) ……. there are endless ways to craft and curate these spaces to optimize our well-being.
We can set out to design something timeless and allow room for growth/development over time (with purpose as not to become banal or dated), however, the real goal may be to design/style purposefully for the optimization and authenticity of the desired outcome (how you want to live and feel each and every day).
There will always be a circumstance for shorter term (appeasement) situations – but overall we are now understanding the importance of waste and our past tendencies to over-dispose items.
More thoughtful selections along with re-purposing intentional items and most importantly - understanding individuals in their most authentic version is the path we seek.
Defining how to cultivate spaces for the best of each and every one takes many skills. The field of design is vast and varies greatly – although some may foolishly believe it is a frivolity – so much more lies in the balance….
The fact is design changes lives.
